Message from Jamey Schrey
If you follow Brene´Brown, you will often hear her say, “The most vulnerable people I know are the toughest people I know.” Well, I am writing this message lifting a glass to you, the adults in Roseville City School District, that are working your tails off while being so vulnerable in the work that you have taken on at this time. You are courageous, you are tough, and each of you has spent time connecting with the students that need us.

And while vulnerable, and learning and growing day by day, hour by hour, it is not going unnoticed. This last week I was lucky enough to speak with hundreds of parents and guardians while assisting other staff in deploying Chromebooks and materials. Honestly, every person that came in was beyond grateful for the efforts of our district employees in supporting both children and the families during this extraordinary time in our history. In my almost thirty-year career, I do not remember when so much was asked of school employees in such a short and demanding period.

I believe that each of us will look back and be able to recognize our growth and accomplishments that we would have never had if we had not been faced with our current reality. I also believe that our students, who I hope are the most resilient, will come out of this time having experienced opportunities for both growths of character and experiences that they will value even as they become young adults. From having to learn in new ways, having to ask questions online during face-to-face communication, or practice some new learning in isolation, we are all vulnerable at this time.

Enjoy your Spring Break! Make it a real vacation by setting boundaries for yourself and spend time connecting with family and friends. You will have April 13th to get yourself situated for the start of Distance Learning on April 14th. We have rescheduled the prior Professional Development Day to later in May.

We are all having successes, we are all having failures (yes, both my children are playing Roblox right now), and we all have a responsibility to ask for help and assume that everyone is doing their best.  We in RCSD have done fantastic work in these last three weeks (hard to believe it has not even been a month), and we are in this together as a district.  Please continue to be safe and healthy, find time to laugh and acknowledge what you are grateful for, and give yourself grace as we continue to be surrounded by uncertainty.

Be Well,
Jamey

District Staff Development Day
RTA has agreed to move the April 13th District Staff Development date from April 13th to a TBD date in May.  The district will communicate with staff as soon as we can ensure that our virtual trainers for a few areas of curriculum adoption have been confirmed. The district will communicate with parents, prior to the May District Staff Development date, that Distance Learning with teachers will not occur on the date.

Zoom and Google Meet
We want to make sure that students and teachers are being safe when using these tools. In the April 10th blog, there will be instructions on how to make sure only your students are entering the meeting and guidelines utilizing these tools to help ensure student safety.

Google Classroom
As we started this new journey of Distance Learning, we temporarily opened up Classroom to non-RCSD accounts.  Due to privacy concerns of having parents logged in under a Gmail account we need to limit students to only @rcsdk8 or @rcsdkids accounts.  If you have a parent that has logged in as a student you will need to let them know they need to log in with their child's user name and password.  Here is a video explaining to parents how to log in to Clever.

If you have a student-teacher that needs to be added as a co-teacher, please submit a SchoolDude ticket with their email address (must be from a University or county office of education) and we can work on allowing the student teacher to join. All @placercoe.k12.ca.us email addresses will be allowed.

Chromebook and Materials Deployment
Thank you to all of our teachers for getting materials ready for students and thank you to all of our admin for helping pass that out.  A lot of work to get materials home to students on such short notice.

As a District we have deployed just under 3000 Chromebooks to students this past week.  Thank you to Laura and her entire team for working so far to get devices into the hands of our students.
