Message from Jamey Schrey

#Celebrate

It is the third trimester! I wanted to take a moment and thank you all for your hard work. I also wanted to take a moment and ask that each of you pats yourself on the back for that hard work. I talk to my sister, who lives in the Bay Area, and hear about how her children are offered very little live instruction online, with no opportunity for in-person instruction. As a single mom, a lawyer, and head of the research department, it is challenging to educationally support and emotionally support her 10, 13, and 16 years old.

Here are just a few of the things that I hear as I am out in the community:

  • My child is in a fantastic cooking club online.
  • The music teachers have been so creative.
  • I loved that we still had teacher conferences.
  • My child has enjoyed participating in PE.
  • Students are being celebrated each month.
  • Even online, my child’s teacher brings so much enthusiasm.
  • My child is such a different person since fall.
  • Online learning has been a gift to our family.
  • I thought that my child would be hungrier, but he is always just fine.
  • The front office staff is so kind.
  • Even though we had to quarantine, we know we are helping the community.

In speaking with one of my physicians the other day, he made a point to share this, “My two children are fortunate to live in a community and school district that supports children. I am so glad that staff is getting vaccinations and is being treated like the amazing heroes they are...Roseville City School District has been the most important asset I have come to better appreciate in the pandemic.”

Thank you for continuing your efforts during the last trimester. I know we all hope for continued COVID improvement, better health for all, and more opportunities to come!

Have a great weekend!

Jamey

Optional Monday PD

3-8 CAASPP Practice Assessments in Otus
In your “Shared with Me” folder in Otus, you will now see CAASPP practice tests for you to use with your students.  This is an optional resource to support you and your students as you prepare for CAASPP. You can still take practice assessments through TOMS. There are benefits of using both practice tests in TOMS and the ones we created in Otus.

The benefit of practice assessments through the actual testing system is students get used to that system. The benefit of practice assessments in Otus is you can see the data of what students got right or wrong and use it as a teaching tool with students.  Watch this video to find out more! Additional support will be provided on March 8 during Optional Monday PD.

You can get the Zoom link and see other upcoming PD opportunities on this document.
