SB98- Please Do Not Delete Information Out of Otus
SB98 requires school districts to document instructional time during a distance learning model. All students were in a distance learning model from March 2020-November 4th and our Champions students continued in distance learning after November 4th.

Annually auditors are required to review district information to ensure compliance with laws and mandates. This year the auditors will be looking closely at the requirements around distance learning. The state created this template for teachers to fill out for each student for each week of instruction (you do not need to do anything with this template, we are just showing what the alternative was). The district felt this template was too cumbersome for teachers and we believed the use of Otus since the start of this school year and also Zoom reports could help meet the requirements stated in SB98.

With that said, all items in Otus should remain in Otus.  Teachers should not delete any Classboard posts, messages to parents, schedules, Assessments, or Lessons that students completed. To be clear, unassigning an assessment is fine if a teacher no longer wanted to use that data, we are really making sure we have access to student work if an auditor asked what a student was doing during distance learning.

We understand this was not communicated previously, and that some teachers may have already deleted some past items, for example, Lessons in Otus.  There is nothing we can do about already deleted items, but please do not delete anything going forward. Otus is coming out with Lesson folders in the near future which will help with organizing Lessons within Otus.

We will remind teachers again at the end of the year, but all classes in Otus will be archived.  It is very important that you do not delete a class as that will delete all data associated with the class, and therefore we will not be able to get to that information if we need it.  Once classes are archived it is not visible to teachers or students, but we are able to access it if needed.

If you have any questions about your information in Otus please reach out to Brandon Blom. Thank you!

Progress Report Reminders
Middle School Teachers: An email from the school site will go home on Friday, April 9th to remind parents they can check grades in Otus. Here is a sample of the message that will be sent home by the school site.  A reminder all students should have a grade for both Engagement and Work Completion.

Elementary Teachers:
As a reminder, Elementary Progress Reports need to go home by Friday, April 9th.

There are two minimum expectations from the District when it comes to Progress Reports.

1. Any student that might receive a Limited on any domain on the Trimester 3 Report Card receives communication regarding progress from their teacher during progress report time.  This includes both academic domains, and the academic behavior and college readiness standards.
2. PLCs are on the same page in regards to what information they send home and when they send that home.

Teachers are allowed to send additional information or send information to all students if they choose, but that is a PLC decision.

Teachers can communicate using the District form, or you may use your own form of communication. If you are going to communicate using something different than the District provided form, you must let your administrator know.

Below is a document that has different progress report options. There are two types of files, PDF or Google doc. All 3 trimester options are on there for the Google doc version, please select Trimester 3 if you are using Google doc.

Are you using iReady Learning Games?

This is a time in the year when students need to participate in fresh and engaging activities. Learning Games are a great option for this! They are fun, interactive games that help strengthen student understanding of mathematical concepts. Encourage your school community to use these to supplement math instruction.

Share this Educator Guide to help teachers incorporate these fun activities into their teaching!
