Message from Jamey Schrey

Thank you to all of you for your hard work during the year and, most recently, trimester two. Who would have thought that almost a year ago, we would have been thinking about making our Spring Break plans, looking towards taking the CAASPP tests, and beginning track season?

In the year since March 13th, your service has become invaluable to the academic and socio-emotional health of not only children but to our Roseville community.

Teachers, thank you for your work on report cards and the upcoming elementary school conferences.

Sincerely,

Jamey

Otus Updates

Assessment Activities within Lessons
You are now able to embed Assessments within your Lessons.  We know this was a big request from our teachers since they didn't want students to have to leave lessons to then go to Assessments.  Below is the guide showing how to directly link an assessment to a lesson activity.

Standards Gradebook Override
When viewing the standards gradebook, Otus calculates an overall performance level for each student on each standard. If you want to override the grade Otus has calculated, you can do so by selecting the dropdown arrow to the right of each performance level indicator. This feature will be available for RCSD staff starting the afternoon of February 19th.

How this impacts Elementary: This will not impact any of your current Trimester 2 grades.  Going forward, if you would like to use the Summative grade book to keep track of student scores throughout the Trimester, you will then have the ability to override grades where you do not agree with the calculated score.  We will have more training and guidance in the weeks ahead.

How this impacts Middle School: You will be able to override any standard score in your grade book starting 2/19 in the afternoon.  We know this has been a feature request many middle school teachers have asked for.

Previous Report Card Grades
We have received a few questions about why previous grades do not show on the report card.  Only the current Trimester grades will show.

We have been working on putting previous grades in Student Profile Reports, that way parents, students, and teachers are able to see grades.  There is only 1 data point so far since we just started using Otus this year, but this will be a great tool for all stakeholders to see data over time.  Teachers will be able to filter by specific domain or the entire report card for the Trimester.

Here is an example of all scores on the Trimester 1 report card (comments are not included) for a student.  You can quickly see this student has two scores of Basic from the 1st Trimester report card:

Here is an example of a specific standard or domain.  As we get more data points you will be able to see their trend in that specific area.

Here is a video that explains more.

Middle School Updates

Middle School Classes in Otus
As we mentioned in a previous Blog post, if you have Wheel classes you and students will have an overlap of classes, meaning you will see both Tri 2 and 3 classes until end of next week.  This allows you to still access Tri 2 classes to enter grades even though the Trimester is officially over on Friday 2/19.  You will need to select your Tri 2 Wheel Classes if you want to look at grades or assignments from this Trimester, see an example below.

Grade Override
As mentioned above, starting on Friday you will be able to override student standard scores.

Overall Grade starting 3rd Trimester
Starting 3rd trimester, there will be an overall subject grade.  This was a request from teachers when we took feedback at the end of last year.  The District will provide teachers screenshots, information on how it is calculated, and slides they can go over with students.  After teachers and students have a chance to review the information we will send additional information home.  This will start the first week in March.  We will have an optional info session on Overall Grade on 3/1 from 3pm-3:45pm.  Additional information will be on the blog next week.

Advanced Assessments on the Points grade scale go into Summative grade book for MS starting 3rd Trimester
If you have been using advanced assessments in Otus and those assessments are on the Points scale to allow for partial credit, those assessment scores will start going to the Summative grade book starting the first week in March.  Those scores currently go into the Formative grade book.

K-5 Benchmark Assessments

All Unit 6, Week 1 assessments are in the grade level folders within Otus and ready to use!  Unit 6, Week 2 assessments will be ready soon!  Units 7 & 8 assessments will also be written to use for all grade levels within Trimester 3.  Reach out to Julie Murdaugh with any questions.
