Kindergarten Sight Word Assessment in ESGI

The Kindergarten ESGI sight word list was created by reviewing the sight words from Scholastic’s Next Step Guided Reading in addition to Benchmark. The Kindergarten committee chose to combine the words to make one list. On the sight words list (linked HERE), the words in gray were found both in Scholastic and Benchmark, words in red are from Benchmark, and words in blue are Scholastic only. These lists were presented to the Kindergarten committee in the Spring of 2023 and the committee agreed to move forward with these lists to help support students' reading levels and sentence writing abilities. These lists are now also updated in ESGI.

Temperature Guidelines

With high temperatures, it is important that we encourage students that are outside to drink water and get breaks in the shade. When the temperature is 100 degrees at the time of the activity, bring the students inside. Temperatures in the high 90s are a site decision, but any time it is 100 degrees or above, students must be brought inside. For example, if the forecast is a high of 102, but at lunchtime, it is 92, students can go outside and play. If you have any questions, please ask your principal.

6-8 Math IXL Snapshots and enVision Skill Plans

IXL Snapshots

This year there are three IXL Snapshot windows scheduled simultaneously with the i-Ready Diagnostic. The Snapshots are optional, and will pop up as an option for students when they log in. Students can click the X in the corner to ignore it, or “Get Started” to complete it. If students ignore it, it will not affect their skill plans. Students can access the Snapshot at any time during the assessment window from their home screen as well.

While the IXL Snapshots are optional, they are highly recommended. We will be comparing Snapshot data with i-Ready data to see if they align. If there is strong data that shows alignment, IXL Snapshots could be a replacement for the i-Ready Diagnostic in the future. We will share the data comparison, and gather teacher feedback before making any final decision.

IXL enVision Skill Plan

Good news! IXL has skill plans for the enVision curriculum. Watch this short video to learn how to pin the skill plan and assign skills.

Guidelines for Online Sharing Student Photos with Families
Are you considering sharing student pictures with families throughout the school year via Google Photos, Shutterfly, Instagram, Facebook, or other image-sharing/social media platforms? Here are the steps to follow:
  • Verify the student's publication preferences to confirm whether their picture can be shared. If a family indicated "Do Not Release" during registration, the student cannot be included.
  • Establish a private album or page with limited access through membership or invitation only.
  • Reach out to families that chose "No Restrictions" during registration. Inform them of your photo-sharing plans and request Parents/Guardians to communicate any opt-out preferences before any student photos are shared on the platform.
  • Messaging to families must include the following: "If you use special adaptive technologies and/or encounter challenges when accessing the content or information being shared, please let me know so I can provide the information in an alternate format."
