RCSD Digital Citizenship Reminder

A reminder that in RCSD, we teach Digital Citizenship to all students K-8. The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requires all students K-12 receive Internet Safety lessons to learn about appropriate online behavior each year. We use Common Sense Media for our safety lessons.

The lesson topics are the same as last year. The format of the website has changed a little, but you can still easily find Lesson Slides, instructions, and handouts all in one place. Below is a link to the lessons for each grade level.

All lessons for your grade level are expected to be taught by the end of the school year.

RCSD Student Password Update
Our commitment to providing students with a safe and secure online environment remains unwavering as we prepare for the upcoming school year. By implementing student password changes, we are taking proactive steps to ensure their digital security.

Beginning Tuesday, August 9th at 9:00 am, students will be able to log in to Clever and their Google accounts using the following credentials:

Preschool through 2nd Grade:

Username:

Student_Number@rcsdkids.us (Example: 267555@rcsdkids.us)

Password:

MMDD - Please use the Month and Date of your student’s date of birth (Example: 0824 if your student was born on August 24th).

3rd through 8th Grade:

Username:

Student_Number@rcsdkids.us (Example: 267555@rcsdkids.us)

Password:

MM/DD/YY  -  Please use the Month, Date, and Year of your student’s date of birth (Example: 08/24/15 if your student was born on August 24, 2015).

Please reference the following link for step-by-step instructions that can be shared with students on how to change student passwords.

CoolMathGames.com

Due to inappropriate ads, CoolMathGames.com, an enrichment website, will be blocked for the upcoming school year. At this time, the service provider currently offers an ad-free alternative for up to $60 per student per year. Therefore, Educational and Technology Services are working together to seek an alternative solution.

Auto Attendant Menu Options Updated

We have successfully revamped our school site's auto attendants (Voicemail Greetings) to feature the school's official website address now, providing convenient access to essential online resources. Furthermore, we have condensed the content to ensure a more concise and efficient message delivery. Below, you can find a sample of the improved auto attendant greeting:

Thank you for calling Blue Oaks elementary school.

For school hours, events, and location, please visit blueoaks.rcsdk8.org

To report an absence, press 1.

To leave a message, press 2.

To speak to the front office staff, press 3.

These enhancements aim to enhance the caller's experience while reinforcing our commitment to seamless communication and access to pertinent school information. We believe these changes will significantly benefit our school community and stakeholders.

Update to Technology Support Model

We're excited to announce an upcoming change to enhance our support services. Beginning Monday, August 7th, the Information Systems Technician team will transition from the current assigned schools model to a more efficient "First In, First Out" approach.

Our primary goal with this shift is to minimize response times and elevate customer satisfaction. We understand the importance of timely issue resolution, and this new approach will help us achieve that. Ticket prioritization will be determined by either submission time or the severity of a system outage.

We'll utilize TeamViewer for remote connections and prompt issue resolution to expedite support and streamline our processes. This change will significantly reduce response times, allowing us to address problems more efficiently and effectively.

For cases that require in-person assistance, any member of the Information Systems Technician team will respond promptly to provide the necessary support.

If you encounter a technician on-site, have a question, or require assistance, please take advantage of our Zendesk or simply call our help desk; we're here to assist. Please refrain from impromptu questions to help us maintain a structured and efficient support environment.

By implementing this remote support approach, our Information Systems Technicians will be able to attend and respond promptly to calls to the help desk. This change is designed to enhance our support services further and provide you with the best possible experience.
